Culture has been something of a buzzword the last few years. It evokes feelings of being different or being set apart from others. Culture is also about shared values, shared time, and shared interests. At Lake Havasu Cosmedics, owners Christie and Jeff Carls have created a company culture with intention, and it’s working for them.
Something that is interesting and important about a company’s culture is that it is distinct and memorable—and it isn’t for everybody. Whether you are choosing a job, a school, a doctor, or a medical spa, you should choose the one that is a good fit for you so that you feel comfortable, happy, and fulfilled. Lake Havasu Cosmedics works hard to intentionally form meaningful relationships of mutual trust with their clients.
It starts with the parties!
Patient education is foremost to Christie and Jeff (whom Christie affectionately calls “Doc”). Once a month they hold an open house event to educate clients and potential clients on different services they offer. Clients have an opportunity to meet reps from the companies that manufacture and distribute the different injectables, as well ask questions, score great discounts on services, and even win prizes! (This blogger was lucky enough to win a ClearLift laser treatment at the last party!). The food and the wine is superb, too.
Comfort and Happiness
Your relationship with Lake Havasu Cosmedics will typically start with a consultation with Christie. She will get to know you and get a sense of what you are looking for. She likes to spend time educating new clients and learning about their lifestyle so that they can recommend the very best treatment options and products. A consultation with Christie is never rushed and feels like showing up to hang out with a friend for an hour. She loves to share her own experiences with different treatments, which always makes me feel more comfortable. She really appreciates getting to know her clients, and she loves when she gets word-of-mouth recommendations because it means she gets to work with more like-minded people who will appreciate the culture they’ve cultivated.
Team
One of my favorite things about Christie is that she is always rooting for me. When I get a facial, she is genuinely excited for me, gushing, “Oh you’ll love it!” When I got a VI Peel, she was right there checking in to see how I was feeling and if the itching was bearable (it was!). When I started my ClearLift laser treatments to clear up the brown spots on my face, she was determined to help me get the results I wanted. During my first Dysport injections, she was right there holding my hand (quite literally, I was a bit nervous!). It is apparent they genuinely care about their clients.
Doc is a crack up—with his dry sense of humor coupled with his friendly bedside manner, he has a way of putting clients at ease. He really focusses on the client and listens to their wants and needs. After a consultation with Christie and with ideas in mind, a client will then spend an hour with Dr. Carls to create a treatment plan. He is meticulous in his work. I have seen him mark, erase, and re-draw injectable site locations just to make sure it is perfect (when others might just inject and hope for the best—scary!). Christie and Jeff are a great team!
But they aren’t the only ones who provide a fabulous experience and contribute to the special culture of Lake Havasu Cosmedics. Adrienne Kostadina is their Executive Administrator and Relations Associate—this means you are likely to hear her friendly voice on the other end when you call. Her compassionate nature paired with integrity optimizes client engagement.
Debbie DeAnda has been practicing as an aesthetician for almost 20 years, and she is wonderful! She handles all the facials, antioxidant treatments, extractions, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, microneedling, dermaplaning, high frequency treatments, LED therapy, waxing, including brazillian waxing, brow tint, eyelash tint, and eyebrow treatments. She and Dr. Carls customize a treatment plan based on your individual needs.
Jeff and Christie really take care of their employees as if they were family. This year, the company Christmas dinner was a fun teppanyaki affair at Shogun, full of laughter, stories, connecting, and gifts.

Culture is defined by our differences, and Lake Havasu Cosmedics sets itself apart by being different through its connectedness to clients, personal relationships, education-first mindset, and personal attention.
Hands do little to hide our age. Between constant use, sun exposure, and just natural loss of volume, hands often age faster than the rest of us. We start to see more prominent veins, skin feels more wrinkly and crepey, and bones and tendons begin to protrude. We often think to treat our faces—facials, peels, fillers, injectables, lifts—but we rarely consider rejuvenation for our hands.
The Merz Hand Grading Scale can be to grade hand rejuvenation. Beyond your 30’s, your hand grade is typically 2.5-4. Restylane Lyft can be used to improve the grade of your hands.
Restylane® Lyft
Never has it been so easy to add volume to the hands and shed a few years. Restylane is a sugar-based gel approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May 2018. It is the first hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler the FDA has approved for injectable use in an area other than the face. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in your skin. HA is often associated with the amount of water in the skin, so the more HA the skin has, the better environment for skin cell growth. The older we get, the less HA our body naturally makes, but injectable HA creates a natural environment for the work of fibroblasts in the skin. Fibroblasts are the framework of human tissue, so supporting the fibroblasts and skin cells means your body can generate its own collagen, and your skin can regain that full, youthful look.
What can I expect?
Through nonsurgical injections, Restylane Lyft is specifically designed to add fullness to the back of the hands. A doctor will identify where the tendons are and plan to inject in between them. After prepping with alcohol, the skin is pulled between the fingers and tented up, and the product is injected slowly to fill the area. There is a little bit of local anesthesia in the product, so that alleviates some of the discomfort. After the injections, the doctor might massage the hands to even out the distribution of the gel in the hands.
After the procedure, which may take from 10-30 minutes, your normal day-to-day routine can be followed, with the exception of vigorous hand activities, such as playing tennis or weightlifting. There is potential for bruising, but that is rare. Swelling is normal, but goes away quickly. The hand rejuvenation will last for the better part of the year, and maybe beyond. It is recommended to retouch in about 12 weeks for best results.
Data-Driven Results
Restylane Lyft is proven to improve volume in the back of the hands for up to 6 months, but many clients have enjoyed results long after that. The clinical trial of 89 patients over the age of 22 was a multi-center, randomized, evaluator-blinded, split-hand study, that showed the results lasted for 6 months with little initial discomfort and consistent results.
Lake Havasu Cosmedics is all about the overall wellness of the patient, so when Dr. Carls is asked to prescribe hormone therapies, he rarely gives the green light. Hormone therapies—in many forms such as tablets, capsules, pellets, and creams—are used to replace hormones the body no longer makes during menopause. For Dr. Carls, the risks far outweigh the benefits, with certain exceptions for severe symptoms that impede a woman’s normal daily functions, such as hot flashes so severe that she loses sleep.
I thought hormone therapies were a safe solution for perimenopausal and also menopausal women.
Not so fast. A 2018 article in American Family Physician lists staggering side effects of long-term hormone therapy in perimenopausal and also menopausal women. Patients had an increased risk of coronary events, probable dementia, breast and lung cancers, venous thromboembolism (blood clots), and gallbladder disease. While there are many factors that increase these risks such as genetics, existing conditions, age, health, and lifestyle choices, Dr. Carls finds that most women who inquire about hormone replacement are not suitable candidates.
So what are my other options?
If you aren’t extremely bothered by menopausal symptoms or they don’t significantly disrupt your daily life, Dr. Carls recommends staying away from hormone replacement therapy. Healthy changes in lifestyle can yield promising results. Limit caffeine and alcohol intake, keep cool, and practice relaxation and breathing techniques. For vaginal dryness, use a vaginal lubricant or moisturizer.
There are, of course, benefits and risks with any treatment, and a visit to Lake Havasu Cosmedics and a review of your lab results and chart can determine what the safest, most healthy course of action is for you.
Lake Havasu Cosmedics will soon be offering an alternative to the little blue pill. Low-intensity extracorporeal pulsewave therapy (or just “pulsewave therapy” for short) improves erectile function in patients with vasculogenic ED.
What are some causes of ED?
Chemical messages to the blood vessels create an erection, so a disruption in this process as a result of one of the following diseases accounts for 70% of ED in men.
Diabetes
Kidney disease
Chronic alcoholism
Multiple sclerosis
Atherosclerosis
Vascular disease
Neurologic disease
Smoking, drug use, and being overweight may also contribute to ED.
How does pulsewave therapy work?
Non-invasive low-intensity sound waves are passed through the erectile tissue. This clears out the plaque from blood vessels and encourages growth of new vessels. This restores the natural erectile function of the penis, without taking oral medication such as Viagra or Cialis. In effect, it reverses the very cause of the problem—lack of blood flow to the penis.
Research shows that over half of the patients in clinical studies still report positive results after 12 months post treatment. However, like all treatments, it really does depend on the individual. The number of treatments a patient needs will vary (usually 6-12), but what is important is that this therapy has the potential to free men from taking medication for their sexual health and to help them start regaining natural function.
What does it feel like?
The pulsewave therapy itself takes 15-30 minutes per session and is virtually pain-free. Ultrasound gel is used on the penis to transmit the sound waves. There might be some redness on the skin, but patients may resume sexual activity the same day. Natural function as a result of treatment might take a week or more to set in.
Am I a candidate for pulsewave therapy?
If you experience mild to intermediate erectile dysfunction, you might be a candidate. Starting therapy while ED is still mild may actually correct the natural dysfunction and provide lifelong results. Along with the therapy, it is important to have a healthy lifestyle to counter any of the health-related issues that might be causing poor blood flow.
